QUACKER’S QUEST

home script concept art storyboard animatic final
SUMMARY
The story is set at a park where a ranger lives next to a pond and feeds the wildlife. The protagonist, a duck, follows the ranger to his house in hopes of more oats and enters the kitchen through the open window after he leaves. The duck manages to open the cupboard where the oats are stored, but accidentally knocks a hammer over, breaking the sink faucet. The duck grabs the oats and heads back outside.

As the duck walks back to the pond, it doesn’t realize the oats are spilling out of a tear in the bag and a dog has been following behind eating them. The duck is disappointed but is pleased when it sees the ranger is back with duck feed. As the duck is later happily eating the food with the other ducks back in the pond, the park ranger is horrified to discover his house is flooded from the broken sink and the duck gives a sheepish look as it realizes the mess it’s caused.

SCRIPT

EXT. POND - DAY.

Title on a park sign is shown.

PAN + DOLLY IN:
Moving past the park sign, we see an establishing shot of the entire environment with the pond and PARK RANGER.  A few ducks are swimming in a pond.

CUT TO:
PARK RANGER throws oats from a  packet  into the water to feed them.

We see all the ducks snatch up and eat their oats. One DUCK waddles around, trying to find its share, but the other ducks are too fast.

Suddenly, the phone rings from inside the house and the PARK RANGER looks over his shoulder and heads back, taking the oats along with him. The lone DUCK follows the PARK RANGER to the house.

FADE TO:
EXT. HOUSE - DAY

The DUCK watches the PARK RANGER from the slightly ajar window.

DOLLY IN:
The PARK RANGER puts away the packet of oats into a high cupboard in the kitchen. He then leaves out the front door and is heard starting his car and driving away.

CLOSE UP TO:
The DUCK is determined to get the oats from the cupboard.

INT. HOUSE - DAY

The DUCK pushes the window open enough to fit and steps inside.

The DUCK tries to open the cupboard with its beak, but fails as its beak is too big to fit under the handle.

CUT TO:
On the counter next to the cupboard are carpenter tools - a rope and a hammer propped up against the cupboard. The DUCK picks the rope up with its beak, loops it around the cupboard handle. It tugs on the rope, flapping its wings furiously to pull harder.

The cupboard swings open, causing the hammer that was propped up against it to be knocked onto the sink faucet. It breaks and water starts to run uncontrollably. The house begins to flood.

The DUCK is unbothered and collects the packet of oats with its beak. It leaves through the open window.

CUT TO:
EXT. GRASS NEAR POND - DAY.

While walking, the DUCK hasn’t realized the packet has a tear in it and was spilling the oats behind it in a trail. A DOG has been following the duck and eating all the oats that have fallen, leaving the packet noticeably empty. The DUCK is sad and disappointed.

The DUCK then hears a sharp whistle.

CUT TO:
The DUCK sees the PARK RANGER at the pond, who now holds a box of duck feed with a “50% OFF” sticker on it from the supermarket.

CUT TO:
Close up with on the DUCK with excited sparkling eyes in reaction to the duck feed, no longer caring about the oats.

FADE TO:
All the ducks including the DUCK eating their new duck food by the pond side, happily munching away. Yelling is heard in the background from the PARK RANGER, who has discovered his house is flooded.

CUT TO:
Close up on duck, with an oopsie face and a sheepish chuckle.

END.
